haikus have their say…

07/02/2014

… after an absence of 6 weeks & more – due to non-network connectivity / wifi-lessness (and that not due to storm nor mobile battery failure), here now a gentle return to blog-fullness (something akin to Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic mindfulness) with a haiku or two (or 8) from a writing group session’s escape from the weather (but there’s no climate change without climate change)…

SnowIcingCyclamen

snow (not hail) from last February…

hailstones clattering
thru blue green and magenta
icing cyclamen

sibling’s marmalade
jogs buttery memory
Sunday school breakfast

flailing writers’ pens,
conbobulated mindsets:
blown cobwebs away…

ApproachingDawlish

approaching the fated (& fêted) Dawlish, south Devon…

hurricane’d landslide
renders asunder journey’d
“outstanding beauty”…

rain daggers stabbing
steamy fingerprint window
seals in escapist

oatmeal biscuits dunked
sweet tea break from stuffy space:
calorific flight!

and inspired by tutor-given text  [  mountain,  snow,  tree,  flower,  moon ]
and the Lego film poster at bus stop …

NetCurtainPetals

cheating with morn (not moon) light here…

net curtain moon spill:
nylon white petals flower
naked black elm twigs

snow mountain goddess,
square Lego head deity’s
plastic Zen practice

Retro Diary Enquiry: 9th December 1988

09/12/2013

20121101_123817

Today marks the third time that I’ve rummaged through my old diaries’ box, looking at the current day’s date in several diaries of yesteryear, only to feel too despondent about the diaries’ texts – the content and context of my life at the varied then years – and put all the diaries back into the box, and that back to its shelf space.

Image4385What can that say of my then unrealised transgender life – of which I’m searching for clues in those yesteryear diary entries?  Ironically, the more the disturbed and distressed years, the better the proof to the Gender Identity Clinics’ psychiatric consultants of a person genuinely struggling with gender dysphoria…

For the transperson living that life, those were just yet more sad days that are hard to look back on.  For me, they were days with no mention of transsexualism nor of intersex gender; no tolerance of bisexuality and no utterance of asexuality; no relief of medication for chronic anxiety and depression; an absence of diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder Level II; nil awareness of Fibromyalgia Syndrome; complete lack of knowledge about Asperger Syndrome…

Today I rummaged for longer than I had on the last two occasions in October and November.  Eventually the sixth diary I picked out of the box was for 1988.  On this day, 9th December, twenty five years back, I was caught up in yet another emotionally-charged, but asexual, relationship-of-sorts with a gay man. This day in that year, I was feeling some rays of hope that this new friendship would ‘go somewhere’.  It didn’t.  But the clue for my trans nature is there: a male side to me that was attractive to other gay men.  It wasn’t just that I felt back then that I was a gay man when I was dancing.  Some ‘part’ of me was a gay male sharing a flat with a gay best-buddie and falling for a handsome gay bloke I’d met on a Body Positive HIV awareness training…

As for the not-so-gay days, all I can do is embrace the grey’d-out (but a bit pink) shadow self

Trans* Rememberance…

26/11/2013

20th November is International Transgender Day of Rememberance, a day when around some parts of the world there is an acknowledgement of the hundreds of transgendered people who are murdered for being other: for being trans…

The recorded figures come close to 250 this year; the majority of those killed are transwomen of colour in South American countries, particularly Brazil.  However, there are estimated to be  closer to 1000+ transpersons whose violent deaths are not recorded, including those by suicide and deaths in prisons…

Rememberance gatherings in Brighton were held on the 20th at the University of Sussex and on Sunday, 23rd in the Methodist Church building where the Clare Project social drop-in gathering and counselling sessions are offered weekly to transgendered and questioning persons, from the City and beyond.

By way of rememberance, I offer my photojournal screenshot ‘mosaics’ – from mobile phone camera; my favourites from June through November 2013.  These are a symbol of my good fortune, as a non-binary transperson in the UK, to live freely – and safely – by day and by night, expressing myself just as I am.  These also represent my appreciation of the City that has hosted the UK’s first Trans* Pride and whose Council leads the way in its commitment to improving and making equal the lives of young and adult transpersons, and in its zero tolerance of trans hate crime.
